Without exception every webmaster will have experienced problems with hosting. I have been a webmaster for many years and I have used many hosting services. Like every industry you get different levels of service and different pricing levels and as a general rule you get what you pay for. Web hosting is no different.

There are many important lessons I have learned over the years. Firstly learn as much as you can about how hosting works and how to do things such as modifying your .htaccess file. This leads onto the second point which is to research your host before signing up with them.

I have used many different host, some were terrible, some became terrible over time and others I just didn't like their hosting management software. One host I have been with for several years is BlueHost and I have been very happy with the level of service. When I have needed support they have been prompt and have fixed any problems. Support is very important, when your site is down or not working you need to be able to contact someone.

In the passed I did use a host which was located in the same city as me thinking that if anything went wrong at least it would be easy to get in contact with them. I was wrong, it doesn't matter where your host is compared to you if they are not going to respond to you.

Now I am sure there are many other good hosts out there who provide a good as service at a reasonable price as BlueHost but I can only recommend this one as it's the one I use.
